The benefits of stock trading

Trading stocks can offer plenty of opportunities, which is why it’s such a popular asset class. Potential benefits include:

  • The high-profile nature of so many major corporations around the world means their shares often provide excellent liquidity.
  • Trading stocks on leverage via CFDs and spread betting means you can take up positions with smaller deposits.
  • You can go long or short, meaning there is the potential to profit from a decrease in share price.
  • Splitting your capital between leveraged and unleveraged stocks means you can spread your risk.
  • With Tradu, you can trade shares 24/5 and even out of hours in some cases, so you don’t have to be limited by restrictive windows.
Things to consider when trading in stocks

There is no such thing as a risk-free investment, and stock market trading is no different. You need to be aware of these potential drawbacks whenever you make your decisions. These can include:

  • Trading stocks on leverage can multiply your profits if the markets move in your direction. If they go against you, though, your losses will be multiplied too.
  • While trading shares in some of the world’s more established corporations should in theory offer greater stability, venturing into emerging markets can bring extreme volatility.
  • There are lots of external factors that can impact share prices. Building up an understanding of these influences can take time, during which there is an increased likelihood of making a loss.

Frequently asked questions

Does Tradu offer listed stocks?

Yes. Tradu offers both listed stocks, as well as leveraged stocks CFDs, all from a single app. Learn more about investing in stocks.

Can I buy fractional shares?

Yes. All Stock CFDs are micronized, and the trading of 1 CFD contract is an increments of 0.1 shares. For listed stocks, fractional share trading and/or notional volume trading is available on the majority of our offering. You can view if an instrument is able to be fractionalized or not on the trading ticket in the Stocks platform.

Should I trade CFDs or listed stocks?

The decision is yours.

Listed stocks represent direct ownership of shares in a company. When you buy listed stocks, you become a shareholder and have voting rights, which means you can participate in decisions about the company’s future. You are also entitled to receive dividends, which are a portion of the company’s profits that are distributed to shareholders.

CFDs (Contracts for Difference), on the other hand, are derivatives that track the price of an underlying asset, such as a stock. You do not receive any entitlements but are able to utilize leverage to gain more market exposure and are not restricted by any Pattern Day Trader rules, so can enter and exit the market as many times as you would like during the stock trading hours.

What stocks are available?

For Stock CFD’s, a selection of over 3,000 top stocks from the US, UK, Hong Kong, Australia and multiple European exchanges are available. For listedstocks, 8,000+ US Shares are available.

Do you offer extended hours trading?

For listed stocks, pre market (4:00am – 9:30am ET) and after hours (4:00pm – 8:00pm ET) trading is available.

Stock CFDs generally trade during normal hours only. However, 24/5 trading is available on select major US Stocks.
